One after another the horses came out on the track for the obigatory parade. After some warmup the horses lined up behind the car as it began to move down the track.
Royal Empire could eventually take the lead after a very dramatic start. When the startcar left the field Knight Of Sunrise started to galop and lost 10 m.
George Bush Jr saw it's chance when the leader lost tempo and took the lead.
The leader got disturbed by something and
Knight Of Sunrise took the lead rather easily.
Royal Empire suddenly made a bad step, started to galop and lost 20 m.
Wondering
Garden looked to be in good shape this day and took the lead after 1500m.

Garden were still in the lead when they started the sprint for the finish-line.
